Kaiser Chiefs have returned to their original label home, Polydor, with whom they released their first 4 albums and on Friday 30th November will be reissuing their debut “Employment” and follow up “Yours Truly, Angry Mob” on vinyl. Both albums have been unavailable on this format for many years.
We are now taking pre-orders for both of the above in the shop and online. Follow this link to order “Employment” and this one for “Yours Truly, Angry Mob”. Orders can either be posted out or collected from the shop.
Tickets for the band’s gig at Elland Road on Saturday 8th June are also available in the shop and online. We expect to receive the printed tickets in early December if you are wanting to give them as Christmas presents. Follow this link to order tickets.
The annual Record Store Day – Black Friday event takes place on Friday 23rd November and we will be stocking a selection of the limited editions and special releases that have been announced.
It’s primarily an event that takes place in the USA on the day after Thanksgiving, but some of the releases are shipped over to the UK.
The rules are similar to Record Store Day; you cannot pre-order or reserve anything on the list. It’s strictly over the counter sales on a first come first served basis. There are no restrictions on the number of different releases that can be purchased, but it’s a maximum of 1 on each title.
A full price list will be available very soon, but we will be stocking very limited quantities of releases from Weezer, Rage Against The Machine, Iggy & The Stooges, Bob Marley & The Wailers, U2, Ramones, Talking Heads, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards, White Stripes, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa & Mothers Of Invention plus many more.
Please see a selection of releases below or view all of them in alphabetical order here
Any stock not sold on Friday 23rd November will be available on our website from Saturday 24th November.
Kate Bush will release remastered versions of her album catalogue on vinyl and CD in November. This is the first (and definitive) programme of remastering and includes the release of many rarities and cover versions on vinyl and CD for the first time.
The vinyl albums – all Kate’s studio work – will be released in 4 separate boxes, the first two on November 16 and the latter two on November 30. The CD boxes will be staggered on the same dates. The live album ‘Before The Dawn’ is included in CD Box 2 in its original mastered form.
The albums, many of which have been unavailable on vinyl for a decade, have been remastered by Kate and James Guthrie. Kate’s 10 studio albums are spread over 3 vinyl boxes, whilst the 4th box contains many rarities previously unavailable on vinyl, including a whole disc of cover versions. The total number of vinyl discs is 18.
We would advise pre-ordering on the box sets either in the shop or online as there is always the possibility that we will not be able to get any more stock after release date.
Here are the links: Box Set 1 Vinyl, Box Set 2 Vinyl, Box Set 3 Vinyl, Box Set 4 Vinyl, CD Box Set 1, CD Box Set 2.
The following albums will also be issued individually on CD and vinyl: The Kick Inside, Lionheart, Never For Ever, The Dreaming, Hounds Of Love, The Sensual World, The Red Shoes, Aerial, Director’s Cut, 50 Words For Snow.
I’m sure quite a few of you reading this will have been at one of the 2 album launch gigs we hosted at the Brudenell Social Club on Saturday 22nd September for “The Blue Hour” by Suede.
Between the performances we called backstage and asked all band members to sign 5 promotional posters (all 30″ x 20″ in size) for their new album which we could then auction off for our chosen charity, St. Gemma’s Hospice and they happily agreed to do this.
The first of these is now up on eBay and we will be adding the other 4 during the course of this week.
If you’re a Suede fan or know someone that is these posters would look great framed up.
Here’s the link to the first of the auctions. We will post links to the other 4 on our social media platforms as we go through the week.
Late 2018 will mark the 40th anniversary of Bauhaus. To celebrate, Beggars Arkive is reissuing six records from the band’s catalogue on limited edition coloured vinyl.
Formed in 1978, The legendary and hugely influential quartet hailed from Northampton, England and is comprised of Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins. The dark, dramatic music that they made, possessed far more force, variety and playfulness than the “founding fathers of goth” tag that is always attached to them.
Bauhaus’ landmark debut album, In the Flat Field, came out towards the end of 4AD’s first eventful year. Following the plan at the time, the band then “moved upstairs” to Beggars Banquet, for whom they cut three further albums before dissolving in 1983. They charted with their cover of David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust”, they’ve been and namechecked by everyone from Nine Inch Nails, Sepultura, Janes Addiction, MGMT, Interpol, Bjork, Nirvana and more. They remain a huge cult concern, periodically reforming to wow their legions of dedicated followers.
On 26th October “In The Flat Field” (bronze) and “Mask” (yellow) are released.
Followed by “Press Eject And Give Me The Tape” (white) and “The Sky’s Gone Out” (violet)
The last of the 6 coloured vinyl reissues come out on 7th December when “Crackle” (ruby) and “Burning From The Inside” (blue) go on sale.
They are all available to pre-order now in the shop and online.
There is also a 12″ of “The Bela Session” coming out on 23rd November. This is a 5 track 12″ single which includes a 50 x 50cm poster of the cover artwork.
Please follow the links for further information on all of the above.

This week we say farewell to our part time member of staff Georgia who is going to Liverpool University.
She first came to us as a 15 year old on work experience, then we offered her a Saturday job which evolved into a part time position.
Georgia has been brilliant and is going to be a tough act to follow. Hopefully there is someone out there who can take on this daunting challenge!
So if you are hard working, reliable, intelligent and very enthusiastic about music then you could be the person we are looking for.
The position will probably be for 3 days a week, which will usually include Saturday as one of those days. Full training will be given and the job will involve working behind the counter, dealing with customers, processing stock and online orders, plus all the other day to day stuff that goes on in an independent record shop.
We are now accepting CVs that are delivered in person to the shop. Along with the CV we would like each applicant to present us with a separate hand written sheet of paper and on here we would like you to write the name of your 3 favourite records of all time (albums or single tracks) and the 3 artists or bands that would headline your perfect festival. Please do this in your own handwriting.
Please drop your CVs and hand written sheets of paper in to the shop between 9:30am and 6pm Monday to Saturday or between 11am and 4pm on Sunday.
Hopefully we will find someone who can match up to the high standards set by Georgia. No pressure!
