8.30pm Hank Tree
Hank Tree is a Glasgow based project led by Fergus MacDonald (ex- State Broadcasters), also comprising Roy Shearer (Ultras, Inspector Tapehead), Bart Owl (Eagleowl, Broken Chanter) and singer-songwriter Faith Eliott. Hank Tree's debut LP, The Big North, was released in 2022, via Olive Grove Records, and features songs inspired by the dramatic rise and fall of prosperity of the desert region of El Norte Grande in Chile. The band's sound is characterised by fast picked classical guitars, atmospheric ballads, distortion-heavy instrumentals and hushed vocals, often incorporating field recordings and featuring lyrics focusing on social history. They have supported artists including King Creosote, Alasdair Roberts and Gwenifer Raymond, and have received radio play on BBC 6 Music and BBC Scotland.

9.15pm St Malo
West Yorkshire collective (featuring members of Shadowlark, Modern Pleasure, Cruel World, St Cyrus, Tiger Island and more) takes its name from a French port famous for being the haunt of corsairs and misfits, and listening to these four darkly anthemic songs feels like being cornered by a force unfolding from the shadows of its city walls.
The band originally started after a chance meeting between singer Ian McArdle and bass player Adam Wishart Taylor while they were both busy playing other music. Initial reference points included New Order, The Blue Nile, French electronica, and Roxy Music’s Avalon LP.
But this is not your usual 80s-tinged electro-pop. It is beating hearts and stolen kisses among the one-armed bandits. It’s Bowie sipping coffee by the Tagus with Pessoa; it’s Depeche Mode soundtracking a forgotten Fellini film.
