"Spring Breeding has a relentlessly frantic energy that never lets up. This eclectic three-piece based out of Las Vegas, NV is obsessed with all things angular, heavy, and rhythmically odd. The blaring synthesizers of Caress Silverii and Dustin Scott meet the hyper drumming style and desperately screamed vocals of Tyler Gutleben, all to form a frenetic dance ridden groove that forces you to move. Spring breeding draws influence from all things ‘00s sasscore and mathrock (e.g. The Locust, An Albatross, Lightning Bolt), with the prompt “what if you replaced all of the guitars with distorted synthesizers?” Spring Breeding is a long awaited fresh new take on what hardcore and screamo music could be. Backflip Soundtrack is the first ever Spring Breeding vinyl output after six self-released cassettes. Sharing bills with Be Your Own Pet, Gumby’s Junk, Tyvek, Body Double, Girl Pusher, Guerilla Toss and extensive US touring has seen the lineup and approach change in the last decade. “I first caught a four-piece version of Spring Breeding at LA mainstay Non Plus Ultra. That version had guitar and bass and struck me as mutated Talking Heads gone eggy. Since then they’ve ditched guitar, gotten tighter, angrier, and more powerful. Beyond the rumbling jury-rigged samples and screaming fits, the blast beats combined with cowbell, lies an off-kilter sensibility likened to Santa Cruz no-wavers The Lowdown or Boston legends Fat Day. We were stoked to include ‘Gina Sleeps All Day’ on the Zum Audio Vol 5 compilation and are beyond chuffed to bring their first album out in four years.
