NOW Music proudly presents NOW Yearbook Extra 1991 - Releasing January 9th - bringing you 58 more essential tracks from an incredible year for pop music.
CD1 opens with Queen’s epic ‘Innuendo’, followed by ‘DJ Culture’ from Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Discography’ collection and OMD with another smash ‘Pandora’s Box’. Simply Red are up next with the lead single from ‘Stars’, the years’ biggest album. Stand out lesser compiled gems follow from a-ha, Sting, Alison Moyet, Oleta Adams and Julee Cruise, from the ‘Twin Peaks’ soundtrack – the ‘must-watch’ tv show of 1991. Praise with ‘Only You’ leads into a run of pure pop from Bananarama, Jason Donovan, Kim Appelby and Cathy Dennis. Tina Turner’s rework of her classic ‘Nutbush City Limits’ taken from her best-selling compilation ‘Simply The Best’ is included, while Kylie Minogue and Keith Washington’s Top 5 duet ‘If You Were With Me Now’ closes the first disc.
Power pop opens CD2 with Brian May’s earworm ‘Driven By You’, followed by Cher’s ‘Save Up All Your Tears’ and Roxette’s ‘Fading Like A Flower’. More pop-rock from Extreme and Chris Rea come ahead of ballads from Michael Bolton and Paul Young. Elegant pop from Seal, Rain Tree Crow and Siouxsie And The Banshees are next along with indiepop from Electronic, The Wonder Stuff, James, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin and the ‘Madchester/baggy’ anthem ‘Can You Dig It’ from The Mock Turtles. Bringing the disc to an end are more hits from Simple Minds and Deacon Blue.
The final disc kicks off with a second Pet Shop Boys’ track ‘Was It Worth It?’, before a run of dance-pop including from Martika and Banderas, and club classics from N-Joi and C+C Music Factory. House meets hip-hop with Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, and huge U.S. R&B from Karyn White. Superb soul cuts from Omar and Kenny Thomas come ahead of ABC and Take That and as the collection winds down to its’ finish, pop ballads from Rick Astley, Bros and New Kids On The Block… and Monty Python’s enduring ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’ was a Top 3 hit over a decade after its’ initial release and closes this extra visit to 1991.
