Back on vinyl for the first time since 2018, Joe Armon-Jones and Maxwell Owin’s collaborative EP ‘Idiom’ was a standout release in the burgeoning south London jazz scene when it dropped on YAMrecordings in 2017. Now, the landmark EP is rereleased on Joe Armon-Jones own AquariiRecords.
‘Idiom’ is the result of multiple collaborations under the direction of Joe and Maxwell. Featuring Nubya Garcia, Oscar Jerome and Jake Long, it is heavily influenced by the hardcore continuum and covers everything from 2-step, broken-beat and house to jazz and dub.
Joe and Max followed up ‘Idiom’ in 2023 with full length project ‘Archetype’, which saw the pair expand their sonic palette even further, enlisting features from the likes of Mala, Shabaka Hutchings, Lex Amor and Fatima.
