Laibach’s 2014 album ‘Spectre’ returns on Clear vinyl,available once more on Mute after years out of print.Perfectly in time for their recent new album, ‘MUSICK’. A record that unfolds like a political manifesto in poeticform, ‘Spectre’ is one of Laibach’s most direct andoutspoken works. Long known for ambiguity andprovocation, the group sharpened their message forthis record, confronting global politics head-on whilecontinuing to blur the line between critique andcomplicity.

Opening with the popular Laibach track ‘TheWhistleblowers’ - a rousing, whistle-led showcase oftheir militant and symphonic sound - the album sets itstone early: bold, anthemic and disarmingly immediate.Yet beneath its surface, ‘Spectre’ carries a sense oftension. Its rallying cries and utopian gestures arelaced with ambiguity, reflecting a world caughtbetween political idealism and exhaustion.

Moments of intimacy, such as ‘We Are Millions andMillions Are One’, sit alongside grand, confrontationalstatements, while the closing track ‘Koran’ gesturestowards the possibility of a better world - even as itleaves the album suspended in unresolved uncertainty.

There’s a sense of exhaustion and repetition in‘Spectre’ that feels prescient now, reflecting a world inwhich political cycles, outrage and ideology seem toloop endlessly, often without resolution. It arguablyfeels less like a retrospective listen and more like anongoing conversation - a record that is still relevanttoday.
