“The Grateful Dead, who practically invented the free rock concert, played for perhaps their largest
audience at their last sell-out concert in New York. And it didn't cost the audience a cent.
The Dead were at Madison Square Garden's Felt Forum for a four-night stand, and it didn't take long to sell
every seat in the 5,000-seat hall. So the Dead, Warner Brothers, and the Garden management agreed to
permit a live broadcast on the final night of the festivities.” (by Jon Clemens, 17 December 1971)
Sourced and remastered from newly excavated WNEW broadcast tapes, the 50th anniversary, definitive
3cd release.
