The Be Good Tanyas’ landmark debut Blue Horse returns in a 25th-anniversary vinyl edition via Birthday Cake Records. Recorded in Vancouver in 2000 on next to no budget, the trio of Frazey Ford, Trish Klein, and Samantha Parton turned old-time, folk, and country-blues into something spooky, intimate, and entirely their own — and rode CBC airplay from an independent release to an international audience. Blue Horse made the band a phenomenon in the UK: 83 weeks on the Official UK Country Artists Albums Chart (peaking at #3), a place in Q Magazine’s Top 50 albums of the year, a Glastonbury Acoustic Stage set, and an appearance on Later… with Jools Holland. The Independent hailed “one of the most beguiling debuts,” while “The Littlest Birds” became a generational signature, later featured on Showtime’s Weeds. The band’s music has since reached era-defining TV including Breaking Bad, The L Word, and Hell on Wheels.
A quarter-century on, this is a living catalogue, not a nostalgia item: the band draws roughly 510K monthly Spotify listeners with 139M+ catalogue streams, and Frazey Ford’s acclaimed solo career keeps sending new listeners back to where it started. Cut from newly prepared 2026 vinyl masters, this single-LP edition returns Blue Horse to print on vinyl for the first time in 15 years.
