CM Ultra is the latest electric, high energy synth pop offering from LA based artist Catherine Moan. With five years passing since her first full length record (also released on Born Losers Records out of Philadelphia), Catherine Moan’s unique blend of 80s new wave, 00s synth pop, and contemporary electronic dance music has entered a new dimension, with both production and songwriting vastly outclassing her debut. While oftentimes appearing to be a collection of lighthearted pop numbers on the surface, a closer listen reveals lyrical reactions to media driven psychological attacks, political campaigns against queer people in America, and her struggle to navigate life in that world. A deeply personal album through the lens of optimistic instrumentation and rhythms, CM Ultra certainly proves to be worth the wait.
