Endlings - PARALLEL 03

PARALLEL 03 is a collaboration between John Dieterich (Deerhoof) and the Pulitzer Prize winning Dine composer Raven Chacon with Vancouver New Music. PARALLEL 03 is a follow up to their 2021 LP with Whited Sepulchre Records Human Form. PARALLEL 03, however, is not an album in the conventional sense of the word. Sounds from the record are presented as a fully playable online music generator / instrument. This album is a tangible and resonating trace of the creative work and interactions that have been developing and growing among all the artists involved in Vancouver New Music's PARALLEL 03 over a few months of collective work, dialogues, creations, discoveries and exchange in the Summer and Fall of 2020. In its labyrinthine nature the magic PARALLEL 03 website further complements and reveals the richness and powerful interconnections of this ongoing process. The album features the work of Parmela Attariwala, Adrian Avendaño, John Brennan, Elisa Ferrari, Marina Hasselberg, Alanna Ho, Steve Chow and Joel Schuman. Fans of bands like Coil will find a lot in the textured, ritual-based work while others will be drawn to the sprawling nature of the tracks that bands like Natural Information Society and Amirtha Kidambi's Elder Ones project. Here we won't find a single, indisputable centre, here a different kind of Harmonia, questions and awe, make everything equally important and equally unimportant. Here we blur invention and imagination, while they both give themselves to our perceptions in their multi-form and magical nature, while they act with full agency and are not acted upon.
