Following March's CD, ‘Wallet’, HOMESHAKE -the solo musical project of Montreal-based singersongwriter and musician Peter Sagar - presentshis second album of 2024, ‘Horsie’.
Written and recorded at his home studio inToronto, it explores Sagar’s complicated feelingsabout returning to live performance. Deepening hisrelationship to loneliness and anxiety, the recordexamines those themes in the context of touring. ‘Horsie’ employs various textures influenced byartists like Four Tet and My Bloody Valentine, therhythmic forms of D’Angelo and Sade, andmoments of ambient Americana found in the worksof Ry Cooder.
The cornerstone pieces of gear used were anEnsoniq EPS and Roland Juno 60, though thealbum also employs a great deal of electric guitar,along with his beloved SP-404. He maintains aphilosophy of ‘less is more’, finding the simplestroute from one point to another.
HOMESHAKE is an expression of adjustment andcontortion within the world as he experiences it,and the sounds he wants to hear in it.Hallucinatory and heartbreaking in its cries forconnection, Sagar’s sound is often imitated buthas proven to be entirely his own; textural andprofound, uniquely honouring his diverseinfluences but adrift within its own transportiveimagination.
