Taking the punk rock do it yourself ideals, the young Battersea arthouse Woodentops swiftly found themselves championed in 1984 by John Peel, recording for Food records and then Rough Trade while tour supporting for the likes of Julian Cope ,The Smiths, Echo and The Bunnymen and Everything But The Girl and reaching the ears of David Bowie who collected every release before finally securing them to support in 1988.
